In Budapest, they named the condition for lifting the veto on aid to Ukraine

As Bloomberg reports, citing Balazs Orbán, adviser to the Hungarian Prime Minister on political issues, the republic’s authorities are considering the possibility of lifting their veto on the provision of financial assistance to Ukraine from the European Union. Budapest is currently blocking an increase in the EU’s long-term budget for the period 2024-2027, which provides for the allocation of 50 billion euros for Ukraine.

According to the adviser, Hungary is ready to lift the veto, subject to the release of funds from European funds allocated to it. However, Ukraine’s membership in the EU remains an insurmountable “red line” for Hungary. Orban stressed that despite its readiness to lift the veto, Budapest would prefer to allocate funds for one year without making amendments to the EU budget, rather than for four years, as proposed.

Let us recall that in September the European Commission proposed a mechanism for protecting the EU budget from violations of the principles of the rule of law in Hungary. This mechanism included freezing about 7.5 billion euros of EU funding for Hungary.
