State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Volfovich said that if martial law is introduced in the country, the number of military personnel will be about 1.5 million people. He stressed that it was about “the structure of the military organization of the state, not the Armed Forces.”
According to Volfovich, “in addition to this, to provide assistance, primarily to the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” as well as to protect public order and combat banditry, sabotage and reconnaissance groups, “the people’s militia is intended.”
The Secretary of State added that the law on the people’s militia in Belarus, which is planned to be adopted in the near future, should legitimize “the ability and voluntary desire of citizens to defend the country.”
