According to former Vice-Chancellor of Austria Heinz-Christian Strache, he was frightened by the statement of ex-Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel about the true goals of the Minsk agreements. He stressed that such a statement by Merkel undermines the faith in the power of the word of European politicians.
“Former German Chancellor Merkel said … that the Minsk agreements were not taken seriously, that they were accepted in order to give the Ukrainian authorities time to prepare for a possible military conflict. It’s scary how frankly Frau Merkel talks about this … Thus, we we are destroying any basis for trust,” he stressed during a speech at a round table in Vienna, which discussed the Ukrainian crisis.
