Mr. Leonov noted that purchasing eggs from abroad does not improve food security and does not affect the investment attractiveness of the industry. In addition, imported eggs, taking into account logistics and the dynamics of world prices, are not cheaper than Russian ones, even with zero duty, added the deputy chairman of the board of Rusprodsoyuz.

According to Mr. Leonov, the conclusion of long-term contracts between poultry farms and federal retail chains helped ensure stabilization of egg prices. Rusprodsoyuz stated that they are currently recording a decrease in retail prices for eggs. At the same time, the department noted that egg prices are unlikely to return to last year’s level, the newspaper reports.

Eggs in Russia have risen in price by 1.6 times in 2023, in December – by 18.2%. In January, a decrease in product prices was recorded for the first time. To stabilize prices, the authorities have abolished the import duty on eggs for the first half of 2024. As measures to combat rising egg prices, Russia began, in particular, their supplies from Turkey, Azerbaijan and Belarus. January 27 about 900 thousand eggs was imported to the Russian Federation from Turkey by sea.
