The IKEA factory in Tikhvin, Leningrad Region, resumed work from September 1 as part of the pre-sale preparation of the enterprise, informed TASS organizer of the trade union of the forest industries Alexander Illarionov.

“Tikhvin came out on September 1, Vyatka and Novgorod will come out on the 5th. The 500 remaining employees will work in two shifts: a week on the job, a week off,” he said.

The name and director of the enterprise have not changed. As noted in the trade union, they plan to close the deal on the sale of the plant before the end of the year. Earlier, the trade union said that the remuneration of employees of the plant in Tikhvin will be 90% of the salary, and no more than 80% will be paid for downtime.

Earlier, TASS, citing a source, said that IKEA does not plan sell business in Russia and wants to return within two years after the stabilization of the economic and sanctions situation. Stores – the so-called blue boxes – will be closed until the return of IKEA, possibly rented out next year. At the same time, the company retains about 700 employees who will continue to work in offices and do work for Swedish colleagues.

The IKEA factories, according to the agency, will be sold due to pressure from Sweden, but “with the option that in the future these factories will produce furniture and other products under their [ритейлера] orders at a reasonable cost. Prior to this, reports of the resumption of IKEA’s work in the future had already appeared, the company denied them, saying that so far options for resuming work were not being considered.

On March 4, IKEA temporarily closed its stores in Russia amid a special operation in Ukraine and logistical problems. In mid-June, it became known that the company was looking for buyers for its four factories in Russia, as well as reducing staff and selling off the rest of the goods. The sale for employees took place at the end of June in the stores of the network, and for customers it started online on July 5 and lasted until August 15.

Later, IKEA launched the process of liquidating the legal entity “Ikea Dom”, which operates a retail network in Russia, wrote “Vedomosti”. In 2021, the turnover of the Russian subsidiary amounted to 157.2 billion rubles, and net profit – 7.7 billion rubles, follows from the data of SPARK-Interfax. In total, IKEA has 26 stores and studios in 12 cities of Russia, all of which suspended work on March 4 after the start of a special operation in Ukraine.
