The Embassy of Iceland in Moscow will suspend its work from 1 August. About it reported in a diplomatic office.
The Russian ambassador was summoned today to announce the decision. At the same time, Iceland asked Russia to limit the activities of its embassy in Reykjavik and reduce the level of diplomatic representation. The embassy noted that the decision to suspend work in Moscow is not a break in diplomatic relations.
“The current situation simply does not allow the small diplomatic service of Iceland to open an embassy in Russia. I hope that someday the conditions will allow us to have normal and fruitful relations with Russia, but it depends on the decisions taken by the Kremlin,” explained Foreign Minister Thordis Kolbrun Reikfjord Gilfadottir.
Maintaining the Icelandic embassy in Moscow with current relations, which are at a low level, is not justified, the embassy added.
