IAEA representatives are aware of Russian reports that three Ukrainian drones were detected near the Kursk nuclear power plant, one of which exploded, causing minor damage to the building where spent nuclear fuel is stored. The organization reported this.
“It is reported that there were no casualties, and the radiation level at the Kursk NPP site does not exceed established standards,” the IAEA reported.
The organization’s general director, Rafael Grossi, said that the events of the current week show that the nuclear safety situation remains potentially dangerous, and not only at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
Earlier, the press service of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant reported that on Thursday evening Russian air defense stopped an attack by Ukrainian drones on the nuclear plant. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that two drones fell on a complex of administrative buildings, and the last one ended up in a nuclear waste warehouse.
