The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, announced the start of negotiations on the creation of a “security zone” around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. He said this at the opening of the annual session of the IAEA General Conference.

“Last week I had the opportunity to start consultations with Ukraine and Russia on the immediate establishment of a nuclear safety and protection zone around the ZNPP,” he said.

According to him, this week he is ready to continue consultations. Grossi pointed out that the security situation around the ZNPP was unacceptable and called for efforts to resolve it.

The head of the IAEA also promised to continue working and keep everyone informed of what is happening, in particular, on the issue of creating a protective zone at nuclear power plants.
