How informs TV channel CNN, the head of the IAEA Rafael Grossi, addressed on Tuesday, September 6, to the UN Security Council with a report on the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant following his visit to the plant.
The director of the agency said that the situation around the station resembled “playing with fire” and “something catastrophic could happen.”
“The damage that this facility has received is simply unacceptable… The operators are working in “extremely difficult conditions,” the IAEA chief said, calling for the creation of a nuclear safety protection zone around the station’s perimeter.
At the same time, he did not name the party responsible for the shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, emphasizing that “the parties blame each other,” and the IAEA mission does not have the means to determine the culprit.
“I cannot make such a decision. We do not have the funds for this,” Grossi said.
