Hungary does not plan to supply weapons to Ukraine, guided by the interests of not only its own security, but also the security of ethnic Hungarians in Transcarpathia, said the head of the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic, Gergely Guyash.

“Hungary has a special geopolitical situation, which is that we could transport weapons [на Украину] only through Transcarpathia, and therefore we do not participate in deliveries. This is necessary to protect the hundreds of thousands of Hungarians living there, ”Guyash said (quote according to TASS).

Commenting on the supply of weapons to Ukraine by other countries, the prime minister stressed that Budapest had always warned about the possibility of an escalation of the conflict. At the same time, according to him, “no one can question the moral basis of arms deliveries.”

Germany previously agreed to the transfer of heavy Marder infantry fighting vehicles almost simultaneously with the US decision to supply Kyiv with 50 M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. Ukraine also received and continues to receive T-72M / M1 / M1R tanks of Czechoslovak and Polish production from the Czech Republic and Poland, M-55S tanks from Slovenia and former own T-72A tanks delivered 20 years ago to Macedonia. The Polish authorities also decided to transfer a company of Leopard tanks to Kyiv as part of an international coalition.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In particular, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has repeatedly pointed out that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
