Hungary promises to continue blocking aid to Kyiv if it does not lift sanctions on OTP Bank
Kyiv must exclude the Hungarian OTP bank from the list of companies supporting Russia, otherwise Hungary threatened to further block funds from its side for arming Ukraine through the European Union. This statement was made by Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
He made clear his position on the issue at a press conference: “Until the OTP is removed from this list, Hungary will not support funding within the EU for arms supplies to Ukraine.”
At the same time, Szijjarto pointed out that it is not only about 500 million euros, which the Hungarian Cabinet of Ministers has already blocked, but also about assistance to Ukraine in the future. Kyiv’s arguments in favor of the bank being on this list, Szijjarto called “ridiculous.” According to him, the bank itself ensures that its participation in the Russian banking sector does not exceed 0.1%.
