Hungary may block EU sanctions due to Kyiv’s actions against a Hungarian bank

Hungary may block EU sanctions if Ukraine does not remove OTP Bank from the “list of sponsors of the war,” said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto. His statement is quoted by the Hungarian Euronews service.
Szijjarto said that due to Ukraine’s inclusion of the Hungarian bank OTP Bank in the “list of sponsors of the war”, Budapest “will be very difficult” to agree with the EU on new sanctions against Russia.
“The fact that OTP Bank was included in the list of international sponsors of the war in Ukraine is scandalous and unacceptable. It’s amazing. It’s outrageous. This is scandalous,” said the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry during an informal meeting of EU ministers in Stockholm.
He said that the activities of the Hungarian bank comply with international standards and legislation, and its inclusion in the list of “war sponsors” by Kiev could also affect EU sanctions against Russia.
“I made it clear at the meeting of foreign ministers that it would be very difficult for us to even start negotiations on the eleventh package of sanctions while OTP is on this Ukrainian list. We demand that the Ukrainians remove OTP from the list,” the minister said.
