Bloomberg: Hungary will not object to the creation of a military aid fund for Ukraine

Hungary will not object to the creation of a military assistance fund for Ukraine by the European Union. Its amount will be $5.4 billion. Bloomberg reported this.

It is clarified that the proposed fund would fix reimbursement rates and would shift from using existing weapons stocks to purchasing new ones. For this purpose, the publication notes, new contracts will be concluded.

The authors recalled that Hungary had previously blocked the allocation of 50 billion euros in aid to Ukraine. The publication associates Budapest’s agreement with the fact that pressure is growing on it over the issue of admitting Sweden to the North Atlantic Alliance. So far, Hungary remains the last country whose parliament has not ratified Stockholm’s application.

Earlier it became known that in 2023 Ukraine spent over $49 million on defense, which is 60% of the country’s total budget.
