Hungarian Foreign Ministry confirms EU intention to appoint sanctions commissioner

The Secretary of State for Bilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Tamas Menzer, said on social networks that the EU authorities had decided to create a special post of sanctions commissioner.
According to him, the duties of the employee who will take this post will include monitoring compliance with restrictive measures.
“Brussels plans to appoint a sanctions commissioner … We are fed up with failed sanctions,” Menzer wrote, adding that the EU still “want sanctions.”
Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the possibility of appointing such a special envoy for sanctions.
