Vladimir Putin united the Kremlin departments for civil service and anti-corruption into one. Now, Andrey Chobotov, who was in charge of the latter, an associate of the former head of the presidential administration, Sergei Ivanov, has to find a job.

Vladimir Putin merged two departments: for combating corruption (since 2017 it was headed by Andrey Chobotov) and for public service (since 2019 it was headed by Maxim Travnikov) into one. The new department of civil service, personnel and anti-corruption was headed by Travnikov. Chobotov left the presidential administration (AP). “As far as I know, he will have a different position in a different structure,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

62-year-old Chobotov can be considered one of the closest colleagues of the current presidential special envoy for environmental protection, ecology and transport, Sergei Ivanov. A native of the special services, Chobotov since the mid-1990s. worked in the department of analysis, forecasting and strategic planning of the FSB (the head of the department since August 1998 was Ivanov), in 1999-2001. was the deputy head of the Security Council apparatus, which was headed first by Putin and then by Ivanov.
Since 2001, he was an assistant, and since 2004, he was the chief of staff of the Minister of Defense Ivanov. And from 2012 to 2017, he worked as the head of the secretariat of the head of the Presidential Administration – first Ivanov, then, during the “transfer of cases”, his successor Anton Vaino. Since 2017, he has been the head of the presidential anti-corruption department. Decisions on the merger of departments, like the current ones, are being prepared for a long time, and many have long wondered why Chobotov continues to retain his position, although Ivanov left the post of head of the Presidential Administration back in 2016, says a Vedomosti source close to the Kremlin.
