How the candidates' headquarters worked on the last day of voting

On the last day of voting, all headquarters of the presidential candidates agreed that the elections took place without significant violations. Vladimir Putin’s confidants, although they had given up their status, assured journalists that they still felt a connection with him and responsibility for the future of the country. According to some of them, the choice of Russians will have an impact on all of humanity. Representatives of Vladislav Davankov (“New People”) and he himself were pleased not only with the elections as a whole, but also with their work, which did not prevent them from being among the first to announce Vladimir Putin’s victory based on the voting results. At the headquarters of Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), they baked pancakes and sang to the balalaika. However, the candidate himself did not join in the fun and spoke to the media only in the evening. Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov called the campaign of his party member Nikolai Kharitonov “brilliant.”

The public part of the work of Vladimir Putin’s headquarters on the last day of voting was the responsibility of his proxies, who, in fact, were no longer them. “On the fifteenth, at midnight, our IDs became a rarity,” violinist Peter Lundstrem admitted to journalists. But his colleagues immediately rushed to assure that they continue to feel a connection with their candidate. “This does not relieve responsibility. This is the story that will now be with you forever. You understand that you must be an example, keep yourself on the level, because all your deeds will be measured against the candidate you represented,” said Maria Kostyuk, a representative of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation, adding that she will feel responsible for everything what will happen in the next six years. “We became trustees not only according to formal criteria. Naturally, this is the call of our soul, the cry of our soul,” Viktor Blazheev, the headquarters lawyer, was unexpectedly emotional.

Despite the general fighting spirit and readiness to continue publicly supporting the candidate, his representatives in fact turned out to be quite limited in their statements. In the end, they had a clear consensus on the campaign. “There were no significant violations of the Constitution and Russian electoral legislation,” Mr. Blazheev never tired of repeating throughout the day. Otherwise, Vladimir Putin’s avatars could only share their impressions of their work. Thus, Mr. Lundstrem separately said that he, together with the famous chess player Sergei Karyakin, who was also a confidant of Mr. Putin, recently visited Donbass, voted in the city of Yasinovataya, and then went to the basements of Avdeevka. “All the people who were in the basement have already voted,” the violinist assured. And the head of the executive committee of the Popular Front For Russia, Mikhail Kuznetsov, assured that there was more than one such basement: his organization received “16 addresses, mostly basements, where people asked for a field office to come to them.”

“These elections are of great importance for the whole world,” Mosfilm General Director Karen Shakhnazarov added to the significance of the past elections. “Today is a special situation: in the context of a fierce confrontation with the West, we can say that the decision of the Russian people today will influence the world order of all mankind. The fate of billions of people all over the planet will depend on it.” The headquarters also stated that during the campaign they collected more than 80 thousand appeals from citizens, and Viktor Blazheev promised that all of them would be summarized and transferred to the president.

In Vladislav Davankov’s headquarters on Tverskaya, in turn, there was enthusiasm, supported from the outside. Passers-by actively took photographs of the branded windows. “I’ll run in and shout: I voted for you!” — one of the townspeople laughed with her friend. “Yes, he is, he’s definitely the one,” another convinced her companion. “And he (headquarters— “Kommersant”) has always been here? – the third did not believe. “You know, no one has worked this campaign the way we worked,” in turn, representatives of the candidate himself assured Kommersant at the headquarters, citing fresh poll results as evidence. “You can see for yourself: rating, recognition…” – Kommersant’s interlocutors said. “In general, the turnout was very high, we succeeded in mobilizing the electorate, but at the same time we must understand that everyone else succeeded in doing so,” the head of the public headquarters Sardana Avksentyeva explained to a Kommersant correspondent, emphasizing that within the framework of the campaign there was even “competition of ideas and programs “

The candidate himself, who quietly appeared at the headquarters a couple of hours before the announcement of the first results, also clearly believed that he had worked the campaign well. “Of course, Vasya, who doesn’t know him…” the politician purred under his breath, walking among his supporters. Mr. Davankov began his final speech by recognizing Vladimir Putin’s victory ahead of schedule and calling it “undoubted.” “It’s important for us that we were able to convey our program,” the candidate turned his attention to himself. “It’s important that tens of thousands of people joined us and campaigned sincerely.” The politician thanked everyone who voted or campaigned for him separately.

Chairman of “New People” Alexey Nechaev, in turn, noted that the party managed to reach the young and urban electorate. “We see that the young audience and big cities are very close to the language and style that our candidate demonstrated – this is good, because all positions in society should be represented,” the politician noted, making a special reservation that the “election winner” always pays close attention to to “what people consider important.” “Russia is strong because we have different ideas about both the future and the present, but in this diversity we are united! Therefore, these elections are a great success for our entire country, including our party,” concluded Mr. Nechaev.

It was assumed that the LDPR presidential candidate Leonid Slutsky would hold a briefing for journalists at the headquarters at 14:00, and then personally prepare pancakes and take part in Maslenitsa festivities. But the festivities began and ended without a candidate. Instead, journalists were greeted by girls in folk costumes performing songs to the accompaniment of a balalaika. Some lines were very topical: “Only if we got into a fight, it’s better not to get in the way.” Other songs were more peaceful in nature: “Oh, it’s a week of oil! We can barely walk!” After waiting for the candidate for about an hour, the staff officers began baking pancakes without him. During the wait, they announced five times that the candidate was about to arrive. Correspondents and cameramen obediently lined up for the press approach, but Mr. Slutsky still did not appear. As a result, he arrived four and a half hours late, explaining the delay by meetings with international observers, who, according to him, positively assessed the organization of the elections both at the polling stations and at the DEG. Mr. Slutsky also praised his own election campaign: “The LDPR conducted a vibrant and, I am sure, effective campaign. More than a million people are in contact with us based on the results of the all-Russian population survey “Tell Slutsky the truth.” At the same time, the Liberal Democrat noted with regret “the large number of provocations induced from the West.” “They are trying to influence those who are not very mentally stable. But no provocations will interfere with honest and fair elections. The unprecedented turnout testifies to the high consolidation of society,” assured Leonid Slutsky. Speaking about the work of the party situation center “Kolchuga”, he noted that so far it has received signals only about “minor roughnesses”, which “cannot even be described as violations.”

Finally, very late in the evening, the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov told reporters that Nikolai Kharitonov “carried out a brilliant election campaign” and now he hopes for an immediate discussion of the party program with the president and the government. “Almost nationwide, 63 regions were involved in our meetings and our attention. We worked through our program honestly and conscientiously. She was greeted everywhere with kindness. People believed and hoped,” said Mr. Kharitonov himself. He wished Vladimir Putin to “justify the trust of his voters.”
