Hill: Angela Merkel may become an informal mediator on Ukraine

Professor at the Vermont School of International Education Bruce Dayton in conversation with an American publication Hill stated that the United States of America needs to use Angela Merkel to establish informal contacts with Russia.
According to him, the ex-Chancellor of Germany is currently considered the main candidate for participation in negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Merkel has a lot of experience with him and freedom of maneuver due to the lack of direct ties to the current German government,” Dayton said.
He clarified that Western countries need to be more active in informal negotiations with the Russian Federation regarding peace in Ukraine. In his opinion, communication between private individuals significantly helps to find various points of contact for formal negotiations.
