Hersh: Biden decided to undermine the “Nord Streams” because of fears of Germany’s refusal of sanctions

US President Joe Biden decided to undermine Nord Stream because he feared that Germany could withdraw from the sanctions regime against Russia. About it declared American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung.

“I think the reason for this decision [о подрыве российских газопроводов в Балтийском море] was that hostilities [на Украине] things were not going well for the West, and they feared the approaching winter. Nord Stream 2 was suspended by Germany itself, not by international sanctions, and the US feared that Germany would lift sanctions due to the cold winter,” Hersh explained.

The journalist noted that the bombs were planted on gas pipelines during NATO exercises in June 2022, but “at the last moment the White House got nervous.” According to Hersh, Biden admitted that he was afraid to undermine Nord Stream and postponed it to September, issuing orders to detonate the bombs remotely.

February 8 Seymour Hersh published investigation into the Nord Stream incident, in which he claimed involvement in the bombing of the United States and Norway. According to him, during NATO exercises in the summer of 2022, American divers planted explosives under the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. On September 26 of the same year, a Norwegian naval aircraft dropped a sonar buoy that set off explosives, the journalist concluded.

At the White House called lies and “complete fiction” information about US involvement in the undermining. Later Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declaredthat the US authorities not only admit their involvement in the explosions, but also “talk about it with pleasure.”

The incident at Nord Stream occurred on the night of September 26, 2022. Pressure dropped in both pipelines, after which two leaks were discovered, which were located in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Sweden, and two more in the Danish EEZ. Initially, Germany, Sweden and Denmark agreed to conduct a joint investigation, but this idea was later abandoned. Sweden has already announced the completion of the investigation, but those responsible for the incident have not been named.
