Head of the EC: The European Union will allocate 25 million euros of assistance to Armenia

The European Union will allocate 25 million euros to Armenia as financial assistance after Azerbaijan’s military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was announced by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen upon her arrival at the summit of the European Political Community in Granada.
“We have allocated 5.2 million euros. I will tell the Prime Minister of Armenia today [Николу Пашиняну]“that we are happy to double this amount to 10.2 million euros and that we are giving another 15 million euros of assistance to the Armenian budget,” she said (quote according to TASS).
According to von der Leyen, in Granada she will discuss support measures for the republic with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
On October 5, Granada is hosting a summit of the European Political Community, within the framework of which a five-party meeting was to take place with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and representatives of France, Germany and the EU. However, on October 3 it became known that Aliyev refused from participating in these negotiations due to the refusal to admit Turkish representatives to them.
On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorist measures” necessary for the “restoration of the constitutional order” in Nagorno-Karabakh. The next day, Karabakh authorities announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire.
On September 28, the president of the unrecognized republic, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree on the termination of its existence from January 1, 2024 and the dissolution of all government institutions and organizations. According to the latest data, more than 100,000 residents of Nagorno-Karabakh have entered Armenia.
