The Palestinian Hamas movement is ready to release the hostages in the event of a ceasefire. Hamas Politburo member Musa Abu Marzouk reported this to Al-Jazeera.
“Yes, if there is a ceasefire, we will have no interest in holding these people,” he said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
Marzouk said that intensive shelling by the Israeli army is preventing the transport and release of hostages, and added that this will not be possible without a ceasefire.
On October 7, the Hamas group began military operations against Israel. The militants attacked army border units and entered Israeli populated areas, where they captured an unknown number of hostages, both military and civilian. In response, the Israeli army launched Operation Iron Swords, and the government declared the country was going into a state of war.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, commenting on the situation in the region on October 17, accused the UN Security Council of inaction. The Foreign Ministry also accused the UN Security Council of not organizing an open meeting on the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and consultations of delegations with interested countries for further steps.
On the evening of October 17th it became known about the attack on Al-Ahli hospital in the Gaza Strip. The Al Jazeera television channel, citing the local Ministry of Health, reported more than 500 deaths. The Palestinian side blamed Israeli forces for the strike, which killed about 600 civilians, according to Hamas.
