The conflict in Ukraine may end in 2023, UN Secretary General António Guterres said at a press conference.
“When I said that I don’t see opportunities for peace talks in the near future, I didn’t mean the whole of 2023. I really hope that in 2023 we will be able to achieve peace in Ukraine,” said the Secretary General (quote according to TASS).
At the same time, according to Guterres, the military confrontation will continue and it will still be necessary to wait for the moment when peace negotiations become possible. “I don’t see them on the near horizon, so we are concentrating our efforts on other aspects of the situation — improving the efficiency of the grain deal, adding new components to it, namely, the export of ammonia,” he concluded.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky suggested that the conflict in the country could end in 2023. “I believe that Ukrainians will be the most influential next year, but in peacetime,” he said.
In response to this, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov declaredthat the conflict in Ukraine could end “tomorrow if desired.” “Zelensky knows when this can all end. This can all end tomorrow if you wish,” he said.
