growth in prices for economy class air tickets does not exceed the inflation forecast of the Central Bank – Kommersant

The increase in the price of economy class air tickets does not exceed the inflation index predicted by the Central Bank for 2023, the Transport Ministry said. By data Rosstat, the cost of an economy class flight in Russia reached a maximum in 23 years – almost 7 thousand rubles.
In a press release from the Ministry of Transport (Kommersant has it), it is said that the fares for flights “are determined by the level of demand in the market and the competitive position of carriers.” The agency says that airlines cannot set fares based on their own costs, and lower ticket prices allow them to increase flight load.
The Ministry of Transport specified that, together with the Ministry of Economy, Rosstat and the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), it is developing a new unified methodology for estimating the cost of air tickets. “According to the Ministry of Transport, the calculation of the cost of tickets should primarily take into account the dynamic pricing system, as well as the different depth of bookings,” the department added.
For the period from January to May, the price of a flight increased by 32%. The FAS said that seasonality, demand and inflation affect ticket prices. In April, Deputy Transport Minister Igor Chalik saidthat flights within Russia by the summer may rise in price by a third against the background of the fact that the industry has not received subsidies comparable to the level of last year, when airlines got about 100 billion rubles.
