Grossi announced the start of the work of the IAEA mission at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant

The mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) began to work at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, wrote on his Twitter.
“The IAEA continues to expand its presence in Ukraine. Today I launched [работу] IAEA support and assistance missions in Chernobyl. Our specialists will remain at all Ukrainian nuclear power plants to provide vital assistance in the field of nuclear safety and protection in these extremely difficult times,” he wrote.
On January 13, Grossi said that the IAEA plans to ensure the presence of two of its experts at each nuclear power plant in Ukraine. “Our nuclear safety and security experts will monitor the situation at the plants, evaluate their equipment and other needs, provide technical support and advice, and report their findings to IAEA headquarters,” Grossi said.
The last time the head of the IAEA visited Moscow was on December 22, 2022. Then Grossi and Director General of the state corporation Roscosmos Alexei Likhachev discussed approaches to creating a nuclear and physical safety protection zone at the Zaporozhye NPP. On October 11, 2022, Grossi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg.
