Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss resigned

The Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Alexander Uss, resigned ahead of schedule. His first term as governor expires in 2023.

“The other day I had a meeting with the President of our country, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin,” he wrote in his Telegram channel. – I received an offer to continue working at the federal level. But at the same time to deal with issues of socio-economic development of our region. I am confident that the Krasnoyarsk Territory will retain the status of one of the key regions of Russia in the future.”

On the morning of April 20 RBC citing sources, said that Uss had already written a letter of resignation. He is expected to become a senator from the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory (the governor of the region is represented in the Federation Council by Andrey Klishas).

A Vedomosti interlocutor close to the regional authorities said that Uss was in Moscow on April 19. Two Vedomosti sources close to the presidential administration say that the region has not yet defended the election strategy that the authorities of the subjects where the elections will be held have been representing in the presidential administration for the last two months.

Vedomosti wrote about the possible resignation of Uss in February. But the decision has only just been made.

At the same time, important international events have recently been associated with the name of Ussa. The son of the governor of Krasnoyarsk, the governor, was detained in Milan on October 17, 2022 at the request of the US Department of Justice. He is suspected of violating the sanctions regime and money laundering. An Italian court approved the extradition of Uss to the United States, after which the detainee was placed under house arrest.

On March 23, it became known that Uss Jr. broke his electronic bracelet and left the apartment where he was by court order. A April 9 Uss wrote down a video message in which he thanked everyone involved in the return of his son to Russia. He confirmed that Artem Uss is at home. The governor himself believed that, “despite the complexity” and even “the hopelessness of the situation,” it would be so.

Vedomosti’s interlocutors named Deputy Finance Minister Mikhail Kotyukov, Senator from the Rostov Region Andrey Yatskin and Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education – State Secretary of the department Pyotr Kucherenko among the candidates for acting head of the region. Kotyukov and Kucherenko graduated from the “school of governors” – they studied under the program of the personnel managerial reserve of the Higher School of Public Administration (HSGU) of the RANEPA.

Uss was appointed interim governor in 2017. In 2018, he won the gubernatorial election. Prior to that, from 1998 to 2017, he was the permanent chairman of the Krasnoyarsk Legislative Assembly. In 2002, Uss fought for the post of head of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, but lost in the second round to Alexander Khloponin, who had previously been the governor of Taimyr.

One of Vedomosti’s interlocutors notes that the situation is rather surprising. Uss only finished his first term. Before taking up his current position, he headed the legislative assembly of the region for a long time, and his appointment as acting head of the region stood out against the wave of nominations of “Varangian” governors.
