Governor of the Belgorod Region Gladkov came under fire in Shebekino

The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that he came under fire while visiting the city of Shebekino. According to him, he was able to enter the city only on the second attempt.

“I was able to get into Shebekino only the second time. The first time, having entered the city, they came under fire. I couldn’t even get out of the car. Shells exploded in a nearby street, wrote politician in the Telegram channel.

Gladkov clarified that only the city of Shebekino was subjected to five shellings from Ukraine during the day, as a result one person was killed, three, including two minors, were injured. Some infrastructure facilities were damaged, including apartment buildings.

The governor added that the regional administration had done “a lot of work with law enforcement agencies,” and that there are already changes.

The Belgorod region is regularly shelled by Ukraine. On May 22, the DRG of the Armed Forces of Ukraine penetrated into the region, after which a counter-terrorist operation regime was conducted there. As a result of the CTO, more than 70 saboteurs, four combat armored vehicles and five pickup trucks were destroyed, the Defense Ministry said on May 23, reporting on the cleansing of the territory.

On May 24, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu promised that the Ministry of Defense would continue to promptly and extremely harshly respond to Kyiv’s actions, similar to the terrorist attack in the Belgorod region.

In early February, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on the Defense Ministry to prevent shelling of Russia’s border regions. He also repeatedly pointed out that the response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory would be harsh.
