The Electoral Commission of the Amur Region accepted the documents from the first of the candidates who will run for governor of the region in the upcoming elections in September. They became the current head of the region Vasily Orlov, according to Telegram channel election commission on Tuesday, June 20. Mr. Orlov was nominated by the United Russia party on Thursday at the conference of the regional branch, his candidacy was supported by 78 out of 80 party members. The working group adopted a package of documents: a statement of consent to run, information about education and place of work, income and real estate, and others.
The candidate has already received the right to arrange meetings with voters. The next stage of the campaign is to overcome the municipal filter. According to the law, a candidate for the post of governor must enlist the support of the elected heads and representative bodies of municipalities by collecting 100 signatures in his support.
As expected, next week the opponent of Vasily Orlov, the public business ombudsman, the chairman of the Amur branch of Opora Rossii, Boris Beloborodov, who is nominated by the Communist Party, will submit documents to the election commission. The rest of the political forces have not yet nominated their candidates for elections. In the regional department of the New People party, Kommersant was told that they would not nominate their candidate this year, specifying that they did not want to be content with a nominal technical candidate, and a real person who could benefit the Amur Region had not yet been found. The LDPR and SZRP have not yet answered similar questions.
Vasily Orlov has been heading the Amur region since 2018, and his term of office expires in September. In the last elections, he also ran for the United Russia party, 55.6% of voters voted for him. In May, during an online communication with President Vladimir Putin, the governor announced his desire to be elected, the head of state supported the decision and wished him success.
The nomination period will last until 14 July. Until July 24, candidates must submit documents for registration. Elections of the head of the region will be held in three days on September 8-10.
