Elena Mizulina, a senator from the executive branch of the Omsk Region, was not included in the list of candidates for a new term proposed by Acting Governor Vitaly Khotsenko, since she is neither an Omsk resident nor a social worker. Mr. Khotsenko spoke about the principles of selection of candidates in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“We decided to focus on Omsk residents. Elena Borisovna was not born in Omsk. Yes, I have been representing the region lately, but still we decided to focus more on social workers and those who were born, grew up and work today and continue to work in Omsk,” said the head of the region.
Vitaliy Khotsenko was appointed Acting Governor on March 29, 2023. United Russia nominated him as its candidate in the elections for the head of the region, which will be held on September 9-10. On July 17, he submitted documents to the regional election commission for registration as a candidate. Including a list of three candidates for the position of a member of the Federation Council. It included Ivan Evstifeev, deputy head of the Sirius federal territory, Vadim Berezhnoy, head physician of the Clinical Medical and Surgical Center of the Ministry of Health of the Omsk Region, and Yulia Chekhlova, a teacher at secondary school No. 28 in Omsk. Mr. Evstifeev is a native of the Omsk region. Previously, he worked as the chief federal inspector for the region, and in February 2022 he was appointed to Sirius.
Elena Mizulina has been representing the Omsk Region in the Federation Council since 2015. For the first time, Governor Viktor Nazarov appointed her to this position. Governor Alexander Burkov, who replaced Mr. Nazarov in 2017, confirmed the powers of Mrs. Mizulina.
