Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova said that an increase in the level of the minimum wage (minimum wage) by 18.5% from 2024 will increase budget revenues at all levels. As Mrs. Golikova noted, due to the increase in the minimum wage, salaries will increase for 4.8 million Russians.
“The President once again confirmed at SPIEF the need for faster growth of the minimum wage compared to the subsistence minimum. And his decision that the minimum wage should be indexed from January 1, 2024 at a faster rate, that is, by 18.5%, of course, these are additional costs for the public sector, for employers, but this is also additional income to the budgets of all levels. – said the Deputy Prime Minister in an interview TASS.
According to Mrs. Golikova, first of all, the revenues from the increase in the minimum wage will affect regional budgets. This is where the main income tax goes. “And due to the general increase in the wage fund, of course, other employees working in more qualified positions will also receive an increase in income,” she specified.
From June 2022, the minimum wage was increased to 15,279 rubles, from January 2023 – to 16,242. Speaking at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the minimum wage from January 1, 2024 will be indexed by 18 .5% instead of 10% and will be 19,242 rubles. Taking into account the future increase, the minimum wage for 3 years (from 13,890 rubles as of January 1, 2022) will increase by more than one and a half times – by 66.5%.
