Golikova announced an increase in per capita income in Russia in 2022 by 12.4%

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova at a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with members of the government said that the average per capita income in Russia last year amounted to 45,272 rubles. and increased by 12.4% compared to 2021.

At the same time, Ms. Golikova stated that, according to preliminary data from Rosstat, in Russia in 2022 compared to 2021, the real average monthly accrued wages decreased by 1%. She noted that the fourth quarter of last year demonstrates the dynamics of an increase in real wages.

According to preliminary data, the growth of this indicator was recorded in 22 regions of the Russian Federation, the Deputy Prime Minister said. According to her, the greatest growth in real wages is observed in the Republic of Buryatia and the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. Among the federal districts, the growth of real wages is demonstrated by the Siberian and Ural federal districts, Ms. Golikova said.

“The cumulative growth of real wages over the past five years has amounted to 22.1%, but this is still preliminary data. Traditionally, in May, Rosstat will update data on wages, and we expect that in general, in 2022, there will be a slight increase in real wages,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

In addition, Ms. Golikova said that a steady increase in real wages and real incomes of the population is expected in 2023. During the period from 2017 to 2022, thanks to support measures, 3.6 million Russians went out of poverty, the Deputy Prime Minister added.

The January data of Rosstat show that in three quarters of 2022, the growth rate of the average per capita cash income of the poorest population was consistently higher than that of the rich, both in nominal and real terms compared to the same period in 2021. Income inequality in Russia has reached its lowest level in the last 20 years. Among the factors that have influenced this are record employment growth, a noticeable increase in real wages and pensions at the end of 2022, and the payment of benefits for children from families with incomes below the subsistence level.
