Gladkov announced the issuance of weapons to the defense units in a week

In the Belgorod region, the issue of arming self-defense battalions has been resolved in the legal field – in a week, the battalions located along the border will be armed in accordance with the current legislation. This statement was made by the head of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov.
He stressed that weapons would not be issued just like that, a large number of trainings took place over the course of six months. The regional authorities purchased all the necessary equipment and gear for the members of the territorial defense units.
Back in May, Gladkov reported that the authorities of the Belgorod region were seeking a legal opportunity to arm members of the territorial defense detachments. The politician said that such detachments already exist in the region – seven battalions numbering almost three thousand people. However “the issue with weapons has not been resolved yet”.
Not all subjects of the Russian Federation share a similar approach – in Voronezh, territorial defense detachments have been formed, but the issue of arming formations from residents who are not in military service is not being considered. This was stated by the governor of the region Alexander Gusev. In his opinion, civilians armed with machine guns pose a great danger.
