MDR: Germany develops defense plan to contain Russia

Germany is developing and, by the end of March, agreeing on the first comprehensive defense plan since the end of the Cold War to “contain” Russia, writes MDR with reference to the country’s Ministry of Defense.

According to the publication, Germany, in response to events in Ukraine, is developing a comprehensive defense plan for the first time since the Cold War, where the main emphasis is on deterrence.

It is reported that Germany’s new operational plan will take into account new advances in the field of warfare, and will also pay special attention to sabotage against critical infrastructure, disinformation and cyber attacks.

“This does not mean that I expect an armored battle on the North German Plain or, God forbid, an airborne landing of Russian paratroopers. But our most important infrastructure – ports, bridges, energy companies – are, of course, under the threat of sabotage,” the news portal of the broadcasting company quotes the head of the territorial command of the Bundeswehr, Lieutenant General Andre Bodemann.

As stated in the publication, the document will consolidate the leading role of the Bundeswehr in protecting the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance, which in this case will require the participation of the majority of the German armed forces in the operation.

The preliminary document, the details of which are classified as “secret”, will be discussed next Wednesday at a symposium in Berlin with the participation of law enforcement officials, civil defense experts, scientists, representatives of the energy and logistics sector, as well as allies in the Western military-political bloc NATO , the material says. The article states that the plan should be finalized by the end of March.
