Germany urged to punish Erdogan for helping Russia

Jurgen Trittin, foreign policy spokesman for the parliamentary group of the Greens in the Bundestag, called for sanctions against Turkey because of its close cooperation with Russia.
The dissatisfaction of the German politician, in particular, was caused by the desire of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to make the country a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which, among other things, includes Russia.
“NATO member Turkey is doing more to circumvent European sanctions against Russia than China. Erdogan is hindering Finland and Sweden from joining NATO,” Trittin said.
The MP also recalled that Ankara is slowing down the admission of Sweden and Finland to NATO. According to him, since there is no procedure for exclusion from the alliance, “it is necessary to consider economic coercive measures against Turkey.”
Erdogan announced his desire to make Turkey a member of the SCO during the organization’s summit in Samarkand.
