In the city of Wilhelmshaven in northwestern Germany, the country’s first floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal was launched. The opening ceremony was attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who announced the need to build new LNG terminals to fully compensate for energy supplies from Russia.
“Our goal is to fully compensate for the loss of Russian gas this year and next… It is necessary to continue building new LNG terminals, as well as agreeing on new supply contracts in the future,” Mr. Scholz said (quote from Deutsche Welle, recognized by the foreign media agent) .
The new terminal will start supplying gas to German households on December 22, enough to serve more than 50,000 homes in Germany a year.
Opening of the first German LNG terminals Olaf Scholz announced in the end of November. The reform of the German energy sector is aimed at minimizing its dependence on the supply of Russian resources.
