Germany in the country’s security strategy called Russia “the most serious threat”

The German government has presented the country’s first national security strategy. This question is also included on the agenda of the Bundestag session on 15 June.
The strategy primarily determines the place of Germany in Europe and the world, determines its interests and values. The Cabinet also proposes, as part of the strategy, to describe relations with China and Russia, which “challenge the international order based on rules.”
TASS with reference to the document writesthat in Germany’s strategy Russia is called “the most serious threat” to order in Europe. “Today’s Russia in the foreseeable future will be the most serious threat to peace and security in the Euro-Atlantic space,” the document says. At the same time, Germany advocates open relations, “neither Germany nor NATO are looking for a confrontation with Russia.”
China is designated as a “partner, competitor and systemic rival” in the strategy.
The German authorities expect to increase defense spending to 2% in a few years and see NATO as the main guarantor of protection against military threats. The document also says that Germany sees the expansion of the European Union through the entry of Ukraine, the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as Moldova and, in the future, Georgia.
Earlier in May, UK military intelligence chief Adrian Byrd declaredthat Russia will pose the greatest threat to the kingdom until 2030.
