The Covid-19 pandemic, which has led to layoffs and halted hiring in the sector, has worsened an already tense situation. “In the hotel industry, careers have lost appeal to candidates, who fear the return of possible restrictions. And those who are there suffer from the stress of having to provide the service in reduced numbers, which leads to departures and affects the image of these jobs. In hotels and restaurants, as in airports, where the 7,300 vacant jobs caused major disruption this summer, the shortage is particularly significant. Some have turned to us”testifies Lasse Kutzbach, who runs a company specializing in roofs and wooden structures. “We took advantage of this because we offer a family atmosphere and quality training”, he welcomes, showing the excitement of the workers in the courtyard filled with beams of his workshop, in the heart of the Tempelhof district, in Berlin. Although he believes he has no trouble finding candidates for the moment, due to the positive word-of-mouth that has been created around his company, he recognizes that he is an exception within his branch. In the craft trades, 150,000 positions are currently unfilled.
