Germany resumed production of shells for Gepard ZSU after half a century due to supplies to Ukraine
In Germany, after half a century, the production of shells for Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns was resumed. This was done in order to provide the equipment transferred to Ukraine with ammunition. Bild journalists wrote about this, citing their sources in the Rheinmetall defense concern.
The new production line at the plant in Unterlüs in Lower Saxony was up and running within a few months. Typically, said Rheinmetall, this process takes years.
The rush is explained by the fact that in Germany there is no stock of ammunition for Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns. This technique was decommissioned and withdrawn from service more than half a century ago. ZSU Gepard were also previously in service in Switzerland and Brazil. But these countries have previously refused for political reasons to take part in military supplies for Ukraine.
As a result, Rheinmetall management decided to produce 300,000 ammunition. 40 thousand will be sent to Kyiv before the end of the year, the first batch of shells will arrive in the near future.
