Bloomberg: Ministers are trying to persuade Scholz to supply long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine

German ministers are persuading German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to make a decision on the supply of Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine. The publication reported this Bloomberg.

They call for weapons that are used for precision strikes against hardened targets such as bunkers and have a range of more than 500 kilometers.

Scholz himself, according to the publication, is concerned that the Taurus could be directed against targets inside Russia, including Moscow. Polls show a majority of Germans support the chancellor on the issue.

Finance Minister Christian Linder does not agree with Scholz’s acquittal and hopes that he will change his mind. He mentioned technical adjustments to reduce the missiles’ range and prevent their use against Russian territory.

The publication emphasizes that Scholz has been under pressure for almost a year to agree to Ukraine’s request for missiles. Instead, he repeatedly stressed that Germany had been one of the government’s most generous supporters in Kyiv, offering about $30 billion in military aid.
