German Defense Minister promised to increase the supply of repaired Leopard to Ukraine

Germany cannot replace every disabled Leopard 2 tank in Ukraine, but is going to increase the supply of refurbished Leopard 1A5s. This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on the air of the RTL Direkt TV channel.

“We will not be able to replace every tank that is now disabled. But what will we do <...>so from July we will increase the supply of repaired Leopard 1 A5 tanks. And by the end of the year there will be more than a hundred,” said the minister (quote according to RIA Novosti).

Pistorius noted that the nature of hostilities is such that people die and military equipment is destroyed. In this regard, the minister pointed to the “importance of supporting” Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation regularly reports on the destruction of Western-made tanks. In particular, according to the agency, three Leopard tanks were destroyed on June 11, four on June 10, and eight on June 6.

At the end of March, the German newspaper Der Spiegel wrote that Germany put 18 of its Leopard 2 tanks. The deliveries of 18 German and three Portuguese Leopard 2 tanks by the end of March were previously announced by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. Initially, at the end of January, Germany announced the delivery of 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In the Kremlin declaredthat the Leopard and Abrams tanks will burn down just like the rest of Western military equipment. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev emphasizedthat tanks will not save Ukraine.
