Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov in an interview with the newspaper “Arguments and Facts” stated that the plan for the development and construction of the RF Armed Forces is designed to guarantee the protection of state sovereignty, which is threatened by NATO’s ambitions to expand with the help of Sweden and Finland.
He added that at present, the use of Ukraine in a hybrid war against the Russian Federation also poses a significant threat to Russia. In turn, the Russian authorities set the task of adjusting the plan for the construction and development of the Russian Armed Forces. The parameters of this decision have already been approved by President Vladimir Putin at an expanded meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Defense.
According to the chief of the General Staff, it is about the creation of the Leningrad and Moscow military districts, as well as the creation of three motorized rifle divisions in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. Among other things, it is planned to form an army corps in Karelia.
“Ensuring guaranteed protection of Russia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is the main goal of this work,” Gerasimov said.
