Gerasimov announced the security of the Zaporizhzhya NPP by the Russian military

The Ukrainian side shells the territory of the Zaporizhzhya NPP almost daily, only the actions of the Russian forces make it possible to keep the facility safe, declared Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, First Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, at a briefing in front of military attachés of foreign states.
“This summer, Ukraine resorted to the tactics of nuclear terrorism, threatening Europe with a nuclear catastrophe at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Systematic shelling of its territory is carried out almost daily. And only thanks to the competent and effective actions of the units of our Armed Forces to cover the nuclear power plant, it is possible to keep this nuclear facility safe,” he said.
Russia has controlled the ZNPP since the end of February. In early October, after the Zaporozhye region became part of Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to take the plant facilities into federal ownership and create the Zaporozhye NPP FSUE to ensure the safety of nuclear facilities.
On November 17, the Board of Governors of the IAEA adopted a resolution calling on Russia to abandon its claims to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and withdraw all military and civilian personnel from its territory. The agency believes that Ukraine should gain control over the facility. The Kremlin said that, despite the resolution, Moscow will continue to cooperate with the agency.
Energodar, as well as the ZNPP located in it, are regularly shelled by the Ukrainian army. The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, called for an immediate end to the shelling of the station and stepped up contacts with the Russian and Ukrainian sides in order to agree on the creation of a safe zone around the ZNPP.
