Georgian Prime Minister called fair the decision to start the impeachment of Zurabishvili

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili called fair the decision of the ruling Georgian Dream party to start impeachment proceedings against President Salome Zurabishvili.

“It is sad that the President of Georgia demonstratively violates the law. We must be an example and defenders of the law in general, and we must set an example for others, so the decision taken by the ruling party was absolutely fair,” he said (quote according to RIA Novosti).

Garibashvili noted that a month ago he personally sent refusals to the president in connection with her foreign visits. The head of government explained that the main reason was Zurabishvili’s speech in parliament, during which she stated that Georgia did not receive the status of an EU candidate because it did not deserve it. The Georgian Prime Minister noted that after that “no evidence is needed that trust [к президенту] lost.”

How wrote Earlier, Sputnik Georgia, Zurabishvili, despite the refusal from the government, went on August 31 to meet with European leaders in support of granting Georgia the status of a candidate country for EU membership. The chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Georgian Parliament, Mikhail Sarjveladze, said after that that the right to represent the president abroad is limited, and the approval of the government is required by the country’s constitution.

After that “Georgian places” start impeachment proceedings against the President of Georgia. To bring it to the end, the support of 100 parliamentarians will be required, therefore, without the votes of the “radical opposition”, the procedure is unlikely to be completed. The opposition believes that such visits by the president help to accelerate the process of Georgia’s European integration, and therefore benefit the country.
