Georgian Foreign Ministry announced the return of the ambassador to Tbilisi after the recommendation of Kyiv to leave Ukraine

Georgian Ambassador to Ukraine Georgiy Zakarashvili will soon leave the country after an order from Kyiv. This was announced by Georgian Foreign Minister Ilya Darchiashvili.
“The ambassador will return to Georgia in the near future. It is also very important on the basis of which this incomprehensible decision was made. I think that everything is clear with regard to the former president – all questions about how responsible the state is to the rights of all prisoners, including Mr. Saakashvili,” the minister said (quote according to TASS).
On July 4, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine order President of the country Vladimir Zelensky expressed a strong protest to the Georgian ambassador because of the situation around former President Mikheil Saakashvili and called on the Georgian authorities to send the politician to Kyiv for further treatment. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also ordered the ambassador to leave the country within 48 hours for consultations with the Georgian authorities.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry called this decision an extreme form of aggravation of relations with Ukraine. Office considered such a demand as interference in the internal affairs of Georgia.
In May, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg rejected lawsuit by Saakashvili’s lawyers to transfer the former president to a foreign clinic for treatment. The Georgian Foreign Ministry said that this indicates a high protection of the rights of the former president of the country.
On July 3, for the first time in a long time, Saakashvili remotely participated in a meeting of the Tbilisi City Court, where he showed his emaciated body and called on the Georgian authorities to apologize for bringing him to such a state. The meeting was held on the case of the dispersal of an opposition rally on November 7, 2007. Saakashvili was detained in Georgia on October 1, 2021.
Saakashvili, who served as President of Georgia from 2004 to 2013, faces several criminal cases in the country, in two of which he was sentenced to a total of nine years in prison.
