The underwater gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia has been closed due to a suspected leak, according to the website of the Finnish operator company Gasgrid Finland.
The Finnish operator, together with Estonian colleagues from the Elering gas transmission system, noticed a serious drop in pressure in the underwater gas pipeline between neighboring countries shortly before 2 a.m. on October 8. A leak was suspected based on specialist observations.
The leak, as the Finnish company clarifies, was eliminated by closing the valves of the underwater gas pipeline. Details of the incident are still being established.
Gasgrid Finland emphasized that the gas supply situation in Finland is stable, since the necessary supplies are provided through the Inkoo LNG terminal.
