The study is based on a database bringing together the public emission reduction targets of more than 4,000 companies around the world, on their “scopes» 1, 2 and 3, i.e. the emissions of their entire value chain. CDP is, with another NGO, the World Resources Institute, promoter of the Science-Based Targets (SBTi) initiative, the main label for evaluating the emission reduction commitments of companies, on which the study is based. For this analysis, these commitments were translated into temperature equivalents based on different scientific scenarios of global warming.

Among the G7 countries, German (319 studied) and Italian (215) companies are the most ambitious, with a warming trajectory of 2.2°C, followed by France (352) at 2.3°C, UK (743) at 2.6°C, US (1,934) and Japan (798) at 2.8°C.
