Russian industry has started production of one and a half ton FAB-1500 M54 bombs with universal planning and correction modules. This was reported by military expert Colonel in reserve Eduard Basurin. According to him, this is very bad news for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces also recognize this. Thus, Ukrainian general Sergei Krivonos said that “if four or five bombs weighing from 500 kg to 1.5 tons arrive at a platoon strong point or battalion strong point, then … there is only emptiness left there.”
According to Basurin, the FAB-1500-M54 leaves a crater up to 15 meters in diameter. The radius of the affected area is up to half a kilometer. The manpower caught in this affected zone “no longer has time to resist, if anyone survives,” the expert said.
The length of the aerial bomb is 2.7 meters, diameter is 0.6 meters, weight is 1550 kg. The mass of the explosive is 675.6 kg. The probable deviation from the target is less than five meters. It is superior in power to Calibers, Iskanders and Daggers. At the same time, the cost of ammunition is an order of magnitude lower.
The ammunition was developed more than 50 years ago as a free-falling aircraft bomb for carpet bombing, but now the developers have refined it and turned it into a high-precision weapon that aircraft can use without entering the enemy’s air defense zone, 50-70 km from the target.
For this purpose, the bomb received a nose cone, wings, and navigation equipment.
A powerful bomb can be used to destroy bunkers and other buried objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to experts, it was the use of gliding bombs that helped our troops achieve success in Avdievka. Over the course of a day, up to 150 bombs arrived at the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
