Fuel oil leaked at Zaporozhye nuclear power plant after shelling

At the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, after the shelling of the Ukrainian military, fuel oil leaked into the channel for supplying water, transmits “RIA Novosti” with reference to the head of the military-civilian administration (VGA) Energodar Alexander Volga.

“With a blow to a thermal power plant, which is located in the city. The tank with fuel oil was broken, at the moment the fuel oil has leaked into the channel that supplies water for the operation of the nuclear power plant itself, ”Volga concluded. According to him, experts are studying the place of the emergency in order to take measures to eliminate the accident.

The authorities of Energodar earlier today reported a blackout in the city due to the shelling of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to them, at least 7 arrivals were recorded in total. The capacity of the sixth power unit was reduced to 150 MW, the nuclear power plant is now working to meet its own needs.

During a special military operation in Ukraine, the Russian military took control of part of the Zaporozhye region, including Energodar, where the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the ZNPP, is located. Since then, the Armed Forces of Ukraine began shelling the city, the shells hit, among other things, on the territory of the station itself. The IAEA mission arrived at the territory of the Zaporizhzhya NPP on September 1 due to regular shelling from Ukraine during August.

IAEA experts inspected the territory of the station, accompanied by representatives of the Russian “Rosatom” and employees of the station. Grossi left the station on the same day, leaving 8 experts and four escorts behind. It is expected that today will be published a report on the situation at the power plant, said the head of the IAEA Rafael Grossi.
