The leadership of Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) is considering unblocking the accounts of former US President Donald Trump on Facebook and Instagram (blocked in the Russian Federation). According to Financial Timesreferring to its own sources, a decision on this issue will be made before the end of January.
The possibility of unblocking Mr. Trump’s accounts began to be discussed in Meta after the decision to unblock the former US president’s Twitter account in late November accepted Elon Musk. Initially, Mark Zuckerberg’s company planned to make a decision before January 7th. However, according to FT sources, due to the ambiguity of such a decision, the process of its adoption is delayed. For this, a special working group was created, which included employees from various groups of the company in public relations and communications, as well as from the content policy group.
Donald Trump’s Twitter and Meta accounts were blocked in early 2021 amid events surrounding the capture of the Capitol by supporters of the 45th US President.
Previously Mr Trump declaredthat, despite being unblocked, does not intend to return to Twitter.
