The United States is stepping up diplomatic pressure on Serbia and Kosovo to prevent the “metastases of violence from spreading” and preventing a new conflict. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing State Department adviser Derek Chollet.
Schollet had previously visited Kosovo and met with the local authorities.
“We were concerned that violence would metastasize… The last thing anyone wants right now is a crisis in this part of the world, given that we are close to the biggest crisis since World War II,” said Chollet. .
He noted that the US does not want a crisis of diplomacy. He recalled the situation with the ban on Serbian license plates in Kosovo and the protests against it in Serbia.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said earlier that outside pressure was being exerted on his country to secure Kosovo’s UN membership.
