FT: Satellite operators SES and Intelsat discuss merger

Luxembourg satellite operator SES SA is discussing a merger with US operator Intelsat SA. Financial Times with reference to sources. The companies are already in “active discussions” about the structure of the potential deal, they said.
If an agreement is reached, the merger will create a group of companies with an annual income of about $4 billion. While the negotiations are at an early stage, the sources said.
Intelsat said it “doesn’t comment on rumors or speculation” but added that “partnerships between satellite companies and the pooling of additional capabilities could spur competition.” SES declined to comment. Shares of the company following the results of yesterday’s trading fell by 9%.
Last week about the merger announced French satellite operator Eutelsat and its British competitor OneWeb. The deal is valued at $3.4 billion.
