FT: Deutsche Bank decided to close IT centers in Moscow and St. Petersburg

Deutsche Bank curtails the activity of the IT centers that remained with it in Moscow and St. Petersburg, writes Financial Times (FT). The credit institution offered to pay severance pay to 500 specialists working there.
The management of Deutsche Bank has not yet taken a formal decision on the complete cessation of the work of IT centers in Russia. However, according to FT sources, inside the bank the case is considered already resolved. “We continue to reduce the risks of our operations in the Russian technology center and expanded the options available to our employees, including leaving the company by mutual agreement or moving and keeping the job,” the bank said in a statement to the FT.
Prior to the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, about 1.5 thousand developers worked in the Russian offices of Deutsche Bank, who were responsible for creating and maintaining software for the bank’s international divisions. In 2022, Deutsche Bank relocated about 700 specialists from Moscow and St. Petersburg to a new technology center in Berlin. The interlocutors of the publication say that the bank offered the employees who remained in Russia a compensation package, which they can use within six months in case of voluntary dismissal.
Deutsche Bank has been reducing its presence in Russia since 2014. In March 2022, the bank announced about the complete closure of business in the country. The German credit organization offered all employees who are in Russia to move to Germany. According to the publication, almost half of all specialists accepted the offer, many of whom moved with their spouses and children – about 2 thousand people relocated to Germany.
